I was fishing in our back yard along the southwest shore of our lake in
Monaco Cove (at the very west end of Miramar Blvd) when a flock of 7
Greater flamingos flew over. They first appeared to be settling to the
north, then rose up together and came directly over our lake at about 30
feet. No mistaking their pink coloration, rather pointed wings with
black primaries, extremely long neck and legs, and distinctive bills.
This was about 20 minutes ago, or 7:45 PM. They disappeared to the
south over Miramar Parkway in the vicinity of the Grand Isles
subdivision and lake.

We are new to Florida-- is this unusual to see them up this far north at
this time of year? Are they wild or is there a domestic flock in this
neighborhood?

Ken
