EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
4. ANNOUNCEMENT: Alcohol Education Requirement for Summer B and
Fall 2006 Freshmen:
**Please note: Honors Spring Course Registration begins October 26 -
this alcohol education requirement should be taken care at least a week
or two in advance of this date to prevent registration issues. Honors
advisors will *not* be able to remove this hold for you if you forget to
take care of the requirement.**
On September 4 you were sent a message informing you of the New Student
Alcohol Education Requirement. Please be advised that you will not be
able to register for the Spring semester classes until this requirement
is completed.
All undergraduate first year and transfer students who began at UF in
Summer B or Fall 2006 are required to complete the on-line alcohol
education program - myStudentBody.com - Alcohol. This program is an
interactive online alcohol instructional program that uses science-based
research to educate students about alcohol and its effects.
The program takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour to complete, and
includes a post quiz. In order to have the registration hold removed
from your record you must successfully complete the program by answering
80% or more of the questions on the post quiz correctly. Please be sure
to print and e-mail a copy of the certificate to yourself at the end of
the program. Only after the certificate is printed or e-mailed is the
program completed and the registration hold removed.
For additional information concerning this requirement and instructions
on how to log onto the site go to:

5. ANNOUNCEMENT: Engineering Commencement Ceremony Petition (NEW
POSTING):
From the Engineering Student Advisory Council: The Commencement
Committee appointed by Provost Fouke ruled that the College of
Engineering Fall 2006 commencement ceremony will not be private and that
graduate and undergraduate students will be separated.
That means if you are graduating this semester, you will be walking with
5 other colleges in a grouped undergraduate or graduate ceremony. You
will not be recognized by department or have a guest speaker. We want
the University of Florida Commencement Committee to reconsider their
decision to eliminate Private Ceremonies and further discuss this in a
public forum with engineering students.
We believe our commencement ceremony to be the culmination of our
intensive studies and the unity between departments and students. The
College of Engineering private ceremony creates a personal touch to our
commencement and gives us a chance to be acknowledged by individual
departments, special college specific awards and speeches given by
engineering faculty, staff and students.
