Records Management Listserv subscribers - the following course will be
offered as part of the George Washington University Records Management
Certificate Program:

Managing Electronic Records (Course CWRM 627)

Location - George Washington University (2020 K Street) in Washington DC on
March 19-20 (Tuesday/Wednesday) from 8:30-4:30pm each day.

This course discusses how digital data, electronic records, and electronic
document management issues are affecting  organizational efforts to assure
comprehensive high-quality recordkeeping activites occur. It covers how the
roles of records and information managers (RIMers) are changing to guarantee
that technology-based records can be retained properly over time. The
primary tasks for setting up an electronic records management program are
illustrated, including methods for inventorying and describing electronic
records. Information is provided on how to address records retention,
disposition, retrieval, and life cycle issues for organizations that
produces volumes of electronic records, such as e-mail, desktop computer
files, and corporate databases. Methods are presented to assure that
accurate, authentic, and trustworthy records can be created and preserved by
business processes. Computer storage media characteristics, the impact of
data formats on electronic documents, and the issues to consider when
selecting software are all covered - including the differences between
electronic recordkeeping and electronic document managment systems.  A brief
overview of electronic recordkeeping systems implementation issues will also
be delivered.
