I have the same question that Judy Fisher has but probably for a
different reason. I have proposed to the town of Sopchoppy that we
build such an attraction in the Sopchoppy City Park which is located on
the river in a wooded area. I have suggested that such an attraction
would likely qualify Sopchoppy as a designated attraction on a Florida
Bird Trail. The complete idea would be to have feeders, including
hummingbird feeders, and plants to attract butterflies and hummers. We
would also build a blind and perhaps add interpretive displays. I hope
to tie this in to a local school science program but have had no
discussions on this thus far. When I brought this concept to an
improvement committee I am working with in Sopchoppy they were very
positive and excited. We hope to have this fully operational by March
31 when Sopchoppy will have a welcome back spring event at the park.

At this point, I need to prepare a project plan and an operating
budget. So, I need to consult with someone who is operating something
similar. I think that if this works as well as I hope that the idea
could be replicated by other communities.

I would like input on the concept, pro and con, and places to contact.

Cheers,

Bill Lowrie
