Since we now "elect" without actually voting for individual candidates...I'm
not sure how to go about being more careful.

I've just discovered there's no money in my budget to pay for renewing my
membership, come next April; and I can't see a good reason (based on current
circumstances) why I would choose to pay for it from personal funds.  I put
blood, sweat, and tears into my local chapter in the past, over a 10-year
time span; but with national leadership going its own way (with some
wonderful individual excepted), I no longer feel any great loyalty to the
organization as whole.

This is my own opinion, not necessarily that of my employer.
