As many of you know the Gator Amateur Radio Club is going to be in the
homecoming parade this year. The parade is on November 2, 2001. It starts
at noon. The float (tower) will need to be placed in the line up by 10:00
AM. Walkers can assemble any time up until the start of the parade. Due to
parking issues, it is suggested that you arrive early.
Any ham radio operator and/or their family members are invited to walk with
us. At this time we are investigating whether or not other vehicles can
accompany GARC. We are really trying to have a good turn out especially of
young people so that we can recruit more members for GARC. The event is
very visible and student government funding is influenced by it.
In addition to walkers we need float decorators and float decorations. The
Gainesville Amateur Radio Society's members were kind enough to donate
towards the decorations. We will have a decorating planning meeting next
week. Everyone is invited to attend. It will be a dinner meeting. There
will be decorating parties the weekend of October 27 & 28, the evening of
November 1, and the morning of November 2. If you are interested in
attending (family and friends and their ideas are welcome too) any of these,
please contact K9PDL or W4UFL.
Some of the decorations we are looking for are alligators (stuffed animals
and taxidermy), American flags including old American flags, any large gator
memorabilia, a tricorn hat, et cetera. All items will be returned to their
owners after the parade.
If you have any ideas, items to loan the club, or would like to help out,
please contact either myself or W4UFL. We can be reached at (352) 375-4386,
or via email. Our email addresses are [log in to unmask] and
