When it comes to the survey you might want to consider industry as well.
I'm assuming that highly regulated industries would require a different
skill set/knowledge base than the non-regulated.

A big factor is also how your organization feel about RIM. I'm at a 100
attorney law firm with 7 offices. I manage the largest office and support
the home office Records Manager and 4 of the branch offices. The
administration and managing partner feel my experience is very valuable to
the office as well as the firm and my salary reflects that. At a prior
firm I was working just as hard and had 4 times the staff to manage and I
was making about 40% less. The key sell the importance of a sound RIM
program and your ability to do the job better than anyone else can.
I think I'll make a recommendation to Anita Willis to revisit the survey
with Johns' excellent comments on title, area, etc.

A lot depends on the location and the field of RIM. For instance,
transportation may pay MUCH better than municipality. And a RIM in the
utilities group could be paid well over what the RIM in the entertainment
industry would receive. You just never know! Alice
