The Records and Information Management Specialist
Certificate online program through Chippewa Valley
Technical College in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, has
students from the United States and 15 foreign
countries. We have many students from Canada, in all
areas of records management, archives, and image
management.

Currently we have 6 or 7 students from Canada. We
have had over 500 Records Management or Archives
Professionals complete this certificate in the last 3
years.

Here is the information on the certificate program.
Let me know if you would like more information, or
have more questions.

Registration for the Records and Information
Management Specialist Certificate Program starts
December 9. These courses are totally online from
your home or office. This is an excellent opportunity
to update your skills and become current in the field
and also update your position--hopefully for a job
raise.

This certificate is composed of five 3-credit courses.
Each course is 16 weeks in length. Currently we have
over 500 students who have taken these courses in the
last 3 years. Our students are records and
information management professionals, and archivists,
from beginners to professionals with advanced degrees.

We have worked with ARMA, the Association of Records
Managers and Administrators, and feel the courses
cover the needed competencies in the field.

There is no out-of-state or out-of-country tuition.
Each course is approximately $210 with a textbook fee
of approximately $70.00. The first course of the five
is Records and Image Management, 176-105.

Costs and course descriptions are available on our
website at http://www.cvtc.edu then go to Distance
Learning, then Available Internet Courses, then
Records and Information Management. You can also go to
that same website, and go to Programs and Courses,
then Records and Information Management for more
information.

You can register by calling toll free at
1/800/518/8211 with a credit card. The first
course is Records and Image Management, 176-105.

There also is an online registration form. Go to:
http://www.cvtc.edu. Then go to Getting Started, then
Online Registration. At that same site, go to
Distance Learning, then Online Book Purchases to
obtain your textbook.

For information, please call the instructor, Mary
Welch, at 715/833-6376, or 1/800/547/2882 or email me
at [log in to unmask] This is an excellent way to
further your education. Let me know where I can help.

This was my replies to him:

http://www.nagara.org/rmbulletins/bulletins_toc.htm

http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/archives/locrecs/index.html
this has a link to the retention schedule of wisconsin for agencies.

http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/archives/arcnet/milwauke.html
this link is to the ARC (Area Research Center) for the State of Wisconsin Archives located in Milwaukee. In the state of Washington, there is a requirement to provide a service to governmental agencies to educate them as to records management. The state of Wisconsin should have a similar provision under their laws and therefore, the state archives should be running a records management training course as a service to the public.

One more thing:
the university of Wisconsin-Milwaukee also has a good master's degree in records management as well as archives. say hi to a packer's and brewer's fan for me! :) German's do it best! (j/k) :D

Subject: Records Management Training Program

Hello everyone!
Does anyone of you have a good comprehensive Records Management Training
Plan/Program for your companies/work place that you could share with me?

Part of the plan on my efforts to help educate my agency's staff on records
management, is to put together a formal records management training program
for management, staff, and records staff. I am looking to put in place a
sort of curriculum that would be comprehensive enough to give everyone an
understanding from basic records management to electronic records
management. Something that would help them understand the importance of good
records management practices for doing their jobs. Records management is not
usually a priority and I need to make people understand why they need to
keep records management in mind as they go about doing their jobs.

With electronic records, e-mail records, etc, the Enrons, Arthur Andersen,
etc being on the spotlight lately, people have been asking more and more
questions about records management including the very basic concept. I want
to take advantage of the momentum to start training staff and raise
awareness on the importance of records management. That being said, I'm
looking for anything that could help me get a head start for a good training
program. Any help, examples, or program you have that you can share would
really be appreciated!
