In 2000, General Motors Corporation launched an initiative called
Information LifeCycle Management (ILM). ILM enhances GM's current
records management process and allows employees to responsibly maintain
in an orderly and logical way the information needed or required to
effectively run the business. Information LifeCycle Management (ILM) is
a global process to enable the strategic management of GM Records in all
forms - electronic and hard copy - from creation, storage and retrieval
to disposal using professionally accepted practices, processes and
systems.
