1. CICERONES RUSH FORUM: Want to represent UF to the public?  Learn about
the Cicerones Student Alumni Association. Emerson Hall. Tuesday January 14
at 7:00 PM.  Find out what the Cicerones is all about. 2003 interview
aplications will be available at the Rush Forum. For more info visit the web
site at www.ufalumni.ufl.edu/saa or call 392-6295.  (Honors students have
been very involved in Cicerones over the years. A great leadership
opportunity!).

2.  LUNCH TIME PIANO RECITAL in Keene Faculty Center (Dauer Hall first
floor) will take place TODAY at 11:45 a.m. and will feature guest artist and
University of Florida alumna Clara Shin.

Ms. Shin has performed as a soloist with the Korean National University of
Arts Orchestra, the Seoul Academic Symphony Orchestra, Central Florida
Orchestra, and the University of Florida Symphony Orchestra.  As an active
musician, she won the Byrd Competition for Duo Piano, and was a member of
the Ambrosio Trio, the first piano trio-in-residence of the University of
Florida, where she also graduated with Master of Music in Piano Performance,
under the guidance of Professor Boaz
Sharon.  Currently, she is pursuing a doctoral degree at the Shepherd
School of Music, Rice University studying with Professor Robert Roux
The program will feature works by Menotti, Rachmaninoff, Debussy and will
include Beethoven s Appassionata Sonata.  Ms. Shin will
perform on a 7-foot Steinway piano on loan from Orlando.
(This is one of the loveliest rooms on campus, a great location for a
concert.)

3. WOMEN's LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE:  There is still time to register for the
Women's Leadership Conference (Feb. 9).    A great opportunity is
approaching very quickly...The Women's Leadership Conference!!!  You
can register online now at www.dso.ufl.edu/wlc . Registration is $25.  The
conference is open to everyone, males and females, and you will be attending
fascinating workshops along with dozens of campus leaders.  I advise
everyone to attend, it is an ispirational and once in a lifetime

4. UNDERGRADUATE WOMEN IN SCIENCE MEETING (UWIS) is holding it's first
meeting of the semester Thursday, January 23rd at
6pm in LEI 309.  Come meet other science majors and learn what we are all
about.  This meeting we will be discussing intramurals, school
demonstrations, brownie activities, socials and much, much more.  After the
meeting, join us at Java Lounge for our first coffee social of the semester!

5. COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE-ISLAM ON CAMPUS: Get excited everyone!!!

6.  BEINECKE SCHOLARSHIP FOR GRADUATE STUDY IN ARTS, HUMANITIES, SOCIAL
SCIENCES (JUNIORS):  UF has just been asked to participate in the very
prestigious Beinecke Scholarship Competition. Each year 100 colleges and
universites are asked to nominate one student. 22 Scholarships of $ 32,000
each are awarded. ($ 2000 for the senior year; the rest for grad school).

To be nominated students must have demonstrated superior standards of
intellectual ability, scholastic achievement and personal promise during
their undergraduate career. Be a college junior (expects to graduate between
Dec. 2003 and August 2004). Plans to enter a master's or doctoral program in
the arts, humanities or social sciences. Be a US citizen. Have a documented
history of recieving NEED-BASED financial aid during their undergraduate
years. The scholarship is awarded on merit (not need) and is highly
competitive.  The application consists of a short aplication form, a current
resume, three faculty letters, a personal statement of 1000 words describing
the candidate's carrer aspirations etc. A certification of eligibility and
an Financial Data Sheet certifying that the student qualifies for need-based
financial aid and a transcsript.
