Milton and all,

I don't recall any mention of Red-crowned parrots breeding in St. Augustine.
Relatively little is known about the status of psittacids in Florida outside
of south Florida.

I can tell you ,to my knowledge, the best places to find these species.

Red-crowned parrots are easiest to find in Ft. Lauderdale at "the Roost"
just north of Sunrise Blvd. on US1. There is a large and noisy flock that
comes in every night to roost in the Australian pines.

Black-hooded parakeets are taking over the west coast from Pasco to Sarasota
counties. They are most common in Pinellas and can be seen regularly at
Fort DeSoto Park. They can also be found in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami.

Rose-ringed parakeets are most common around Naples. I haven't kept up with
the latest on these birds.

I don't live in any of these areas and the locals can give more specific
information on all of these birds. I will be leading some trips to
Miami-Ft. Lauderdale where we will see Red-crowned and Black-hooded as well
as many other interesting native and non-native birds.

May achieves mention Rose ringed parakeets, black-hooded parakeets being
in St Augustine. Somewhere I read that the Red-crowned parrot was
breeding in St. Augustine. Can this be verified and the best locations
for seeing the same be listed.

Thanks, Milton Plaugher
Winter Park, Florida
