I agree. You never know when you will need it. I know of a situation in which the software license was needed and it couldn't be found. This particular SW version was one no longer in use ie an older version. With a valid license the vendor was willing to provide a new key, no license no key. The company concerned luckily was able to obtain a valid license via the internet after searching eBay, etc.
AFAIK (or would that be IIRC) SW licenses are not voluminous and could be easily maintained for whatever length of time.
