If only you could write a poem (an ode to Glenn, of course) I'm sure they
would be happy to set it to music once they get enough in them, at the
pub(s) in Boston.
Friends, strangers...others
I've a story to tell
Of a night lived in infamy
Of my personal hell.
See, my soul was unsettled
I awoke in the night
The sweat was down-pouring
There was something not right.
I could not bear the horror
The unspeakable fear
My hands-they were trembling
As if danger were near.
And then it all hit me
The truth-too much to bear
The Listserve party had happened
And I wasn't there!
You'd think I'd have made it
Been first at the gate
We'd been reminded ad nauseum
By Peter Kurilecz of the date.
The memories came flooding
Of the effort I'd spent
In anticipation
Of my favorite event.
I'd missed eating and dancing
Some events truly inspired
And this crazy event
Where 5 legs were required.
There would be no fine dancing
For me in this year
No Beer drinking or or wretching
The thought caused me to tear.
The committee was plannin'
Or so I was told,
Some new games for playin'
And some fun games of old.
There'd be chicks there, they promised
So I just couldn't wait!
The kind for good talkin'
And the kind you can date!
But the critical bonus
I'd missed due to my glitch
Were the odds that by going
I'd help others get hitched!
For the listserve party, you realize
Has a record of note
In helping new couples
And this is true hope
Results, they may vary
I am told to disclaim
But there'll be chances for touching
And romance, it will reign.
By an increased percentage
Of what number, not known
But it just didn't matter
Cause I was left home.
And as I lay weeping
I could hear myself scream
It was then that I realized
It was only a dream.
Oh, the joy that soon filled me
I leapt up with a start!
I'd just lived through a nightmare
I'm a real life Newhart! (Bob, that is)
It is not yet November
So I still have a chance
To remember ARMA Conference
And to be there to dance!
And so, my dear listeners
Learn from my plight,
And make sure that you get there
On that Listserve night.
Don't miss singing and dancing
Find some flannel to wear
And remember you'll not find me
Cause I'll sure not be be there!
