BASIC RECORDS OPERATIONS - Files Maintenance and Disposition: This one-day workshop introduces employees concerned with files maintenance to the principles of establishing and maintaining a collection of records. The topics discussed are basic to files management, applicable to all Federal offices, and include subject filing, case filing, file operations, file plans, technical reference filing, maintaining temporary papers, daily filing recommendations, and "closing "files. Also covered are all aspects of an active records disposition program. It deals with identifying agency records, scheduling records for disposition, preparing them for transfer to NARA, transferring the records, referencing agency records that are in NARA's custody, "CIPS", and completing necessary administrative forms, such as the Standard Form 135 and the Optional Form 11.

ELECTRONIC RECORDS ISSUES: A one-day, basic workshop that addresses major issues and problems related to managing electronic records in Federal agencies. The class defines common electronic records terms and concepts and provides a forum for in-depth discussion of such subjects as: email, office automation, GRS 20, websites, recent court decisions concerning electronic record keeping, relevant Federal regulations, E-FOIA, the Government Paperwork Elimination Act, DoD Standard 5015.2, and electronic recordkeeping systems.
