Karen, there's an excellent post by Jim Connelly on Sept. 10, 2003 with the subject line Document Naming Conventions. It contains a very thorough outline. Just search on the listserv archives for it.
As one who is interested in this subject, I refer to this post often.

Subject: Old School Naming Standards!

I am looking for a basic outline for naming conventions when creating files. I had a hard-copy way back when I was studying and cannot seem to find it. I have been on the ARMA website and looked under Resources and Standards and even did a search with keywords and came up with nothing.

Anybody out there have an electronic copy of a document with these standards and would be able to pass along to me or point me in the right direction to find it myself?

I was hoping to have something "Canadian" specific. i.e.) Canada, Department of National Defence or Ontario, Ministry of the Environment but I am not picky at this point. Any help would be appreciated.
