Re: GSC October Meeting, Call for GSOs

Graduate Students,

The Graduate Student Council will hold its October meeting on
Thursday, October 28 at 6:30 PM in Room 156 of the Animal Sciences
building. Student Body President and Board of Trustees Member
Jamal Sowell will address the group and field questions about
Student Government and its role in graduate student education. The
Interim Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Ken Gerhardt, and
representatives from Graduate Assistants United and the SG Cabinet
for Graduate Affairs will also be on hand. The tentative agenda is
as follows:

1. Jamal Sowell
2. Dean Gerhardt
3. GAU/payroll issues
4. SG Cabinet/ Update on Student Health Insurance Board
5. Travel Grants
6. Officer Reports
7. Announcements

The meeting is open to all graduate students. If you are a
department representative, you or an alternate should attend, as
departments who have absent representatives will be ineligible for
travel grants processed in the period between the October and
November meetings.

GRADUATE STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS NEEDED
The GSC is in the early stages of planning the University's Annual
Graduate Student Research Forum. In order to make the Forum more
exclusive than in years past, the Forum will be open to papers and
posters selected by the GSOs. Rather than creating a smaller
program committee to select from submissions across campus, GSOs
will be allotted a block of time or poster space and will
determine which of their members will present their research. We
are hopeful that this will ensure the highest quality of research
from each GSO and provided a Forum program that has truly been
reviewed by its peers.

If you are a GSO and would like to be included in the UF Annual
Graduate Research Forum, please send an e-mail to [log in to unmask]
with "Forum" in the subject line.

Thanks,
Mike Bowen
