Hurricane Frances Announcements

Classes And Activities Suspended Friday

All classes and scheduled activities are cancelled for Friday, Sept. 3.
All non-essential administrative offices will close noon Friday, and
Saturday's home football game is postponed. Please continue to monitor
the UF website for further updates.

If students have concerns for their safety and want to go home to be
with their families that is a family decision. Students and their
parents need to make decisions based on their family situation and what
will make them feel the safest. The university will be supportive of
their decisions.

Students who plan to stay in Gainesville should coordinate with their
family members a communication plan in case phone lines go down here or
at home. An option is to have a third out-of-state party be a point of
contact.

In addition, two on-campus shelters are available for UF students, staff
and faculty - Reitz Union and Southwest Rec. Students who live in the
residence halls are encouraged to stay in their rooms as the buildings
are designated shelters for residents and will be staffed to provide
support before, during, and after the storm.

Here is also information on additional shelters in the area:

* Gainesville Community Shelters will open on Friday, September
3rd at 5pm. Here is a list of shelters:

* Wiles Elementary School

* Kanapaha Middle School (This shelter allows pets in crates/carriers
only)

* Buchholz High School (This is a facility that can accommodate people
with special needs)

* East Side High School (This Is a facility that can accommodate
people with special needs)
