JESUS SPIDERS OF CENTRAL PARK Directed by Sidney Homan and Presented by

The Jesus Spiders of Central Park at 8 PM Sunday through Wednesday, April
18-21. Tickets are just $7 for students and $9 for the general public, and
may be purchased beforehand at Omni Book Store (Westgate Shopping Center, NW
34th St. and University Ave.) and Book Gallery West (Millhopper Shopping
Center, NW 16th Ave. and NW 43rd St.), or at the door the night of
performance.
With echoes of Albee's Zoo Story and Beckett's Waiting for Godot--and
surreal playwrights like Strindberg and Ionesco--The Jesus Spiders of
Central Park involves an encounter between a bag lady and a young man who
wanders into her "area" of Central Park. The play is alternately comic and
serious, and represents a veritable "review" of styles, both in acting and
playwriting, of the modern theatre. It has an original musical score by
David Homan, son of the director Sidney Homan. Caroline Thomas is well known
in New York as an acting teacher, playwright, and director. Among the
numerous props and costumes are "a cigarette lighter with a prodigious
flame" and not one but two wedding gowns. After its Gainesville premier, the
play will be restaged in New York City in August.
Come out and enjoy an exciting play put on by fellow UF students!
