Hi all,
Took my usual Sunday morning ride to Green Key and saw the following birds:
Brown Pelicans
D.C.Cormorants
Red-breasted Mergansers
3 Common Loons
3 Horned Grebes
24+ NORTHERN GANNETS ( feeding quite a ways out, no mistaking them, several were adults with their white bodies and black wing tips)
1 Reddish Egret
5 Royal Terns
100+ Black Skimmers (on the beach)
Laughing Gulls (lots, many growing black hoods)
Ring-billed Gulls
1 Sanderling
1 Ruddy Turnstones
Ground Doves
Redwings
A drive east on SR 54 yielded the wintering SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER at it's usual haunt in the fields on the south side of the road (about 1 1/2 miles east of Little Road between the Longleaf development and Trinity Towers Storage). I took pictures with my Bushnell Imageview camera-bino unit but the bird was quite a ways off, and I'm finding the quality of the camera's images leave a lot to be desired, so I didn't post it. Looks like I've still got to buy a telephoto for my Nikon!
Good birding,
Ray Smart
