Hello,
I work for the Student Health Care Center on Campus. We are trying to
set up some laptops to use the wireless network. Of course we have to
follow HIPPA security guidelines.
I have several questions.
1. Is there any communication with the Internet before I actually
authenticate to UF wireless? (I know it gives me a IP Number)
2. In windows XP it asks me once if I want to connect to UFW after that
it connects automatically unless I remove it from the trusted list. Is
this a security issue. (The only thing I can think of is a rogue
wireless access point with UFW as the SSID. At this time someone could
potentially try to hack into the computer?!?)
3.The solution to disable the wireless network connection when we are
not using it is somewhat of a pain. Does anyone know an easy way to do
this. Maybe a couple keystrokes?
4. We use the UF VPN. Would this be considered secure enough for patient
information? I would think it is however I wanna throw this question out
there if someone thinks otherwise.
On a separate note. Does anyone know how secure communication is if I
connect to a Novel server across an IP network? For example if someone
could intercept the packets would they get any useful information out of
them?
Thanks for the info,
Victor
