1. Super Bowl Party:
No plans for the big game this Sunday? No worries, SHO is hosting a
Super Bowl party on Sunday, February 6th in the Hume Commons. Kickoff is
at 6:30 PM, so don't be late and miss out on the wings, pizza, chips,
and all kinds of other good stuff. See you there!
2. IMPORTANT Islands of Adventure Trip!
Attention everyone who signed up for the Island of Adventure trip!

Remember to meet at Hume on Saturday the 12th at 7:30 am if you
purchased a ticket.

3. SCHOLARSHIP: UF McNair Scholars Program:
The UF McNair Scholars Program, named in honor of Dr. Ronald E. McNair
(an African-American engineer, scientist and astronaut who perished in
the 1986 explosion of the space shuttle Challenger), exists to support
undergraduate college students from low-income, first-generation and
underrepresented backgrounds in their progress towards a doctoral
degree. Some elements of the program include: Designing and conducting
your own research project, being matched with a knowledgeable faculty
mentor, receiving a $2,900 research stipend, attending graduate studies
seminars and workshops and traveling to student and professional

4. OPPORTUNITY: Free Kaplan MCAT Course:
Kaplan is giving away a MCAT prep course, through the Office of Health
and Legal Professions Advising, for students currently enrolled or will
be enrolled for the 2005 MCAT exam. The Office oh Health and Legal
Professions Advising will hold an essay contest for interested students.
Please go to http://www.advising.ufl,edu/prehealth and click on the
MCAT Essay Contest Link for the application. Eligible students are those
who feel they are from disadvantaged backgrounds. Although the most
disadvantaged individuals are underrepresented in medicine or come from
low socioeconomic backgrounds, it is up to you to decide if you are
disadvantaged and provided information about your background describing
your circumstances and background. Please submit your contest packet
materials to the Office of Health and Legal Professions Office (Jessica
Stanley) by Feb 25, 2005. The free MCAT course will be awarded by March
11, 2005. If you are currently enrolled in an MCAT course, and have paid
your tuition, you will be refunded. Refer any questions about the essay

5. OPPORTUNITY: The 2005 Johnson & Johnson Business Case
Competition
The case competition is an excellent opportunity to use those business
classes in a real world setting. Teams of 5-7 UF students (only ONE
graduating senior is allowed on any team) will answer the case question
by developing an in-depth financial and marketing analysis. The winning
team will travel to Johnson & Johnson Headquarters in New Brunswick, NJ
on an all-expenses paid trip to compete on the national level. February
18, 2005: Registration deadline February 23, 2005: Case Competition
Kick-Off. March 25th, 2005: The Case Competition

6. OPPORTUNITY: Office of Community Service Jobs:
UF's Office of Community Service is looking for new staff members who
will be responsible for website and graphic functions. This position
focuses on providing web based technical support to the staff and
student groups at the Reitz Union. Typical activities include setting up
and troubleshooting the hardware & software used at the Reitz Union as
well as answering user questions. Previous experience with Microsoft
operating systems, Microsoft Office and computer hardware is preferable.
This job provides an excellent opportunity for students to get hands-on
experience with web design and computer technology and also to develop
customer service skills. If you are interested in this position, please

7. SERVICE: Math Tutors at Howard Bishop Middle School
Are you a math wiz? Then help students at Howard Bishop Middle School

8. INTERNSHIP: Student Conservation Association:
The SCA provides students with meaningful conservation service
internships across America in a range of discipline, from fish biology,
to environmental policy, to business plan initiatives. Conservation
Internships are made for those seeking to preserve and protect our most
prized public lands and resources. Students live and work with resource
management professionals at natural and cultural sites nationwide.
Internships are available throughout the year in all fields with terms
from three to twelve months. Expenses paid, plus living allowance,
travel grant. Gain new skills and experience with federal resource
agencies including the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service,
Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S.
Geological Survey, as well as many state and local agencies and private

9. EVENT: Janet Reno to speak
ACCENT Speaker's Bureau and the Women's Leadership Council have
collaborated to bring former Attorney General Janet Reno to the Stephen
C. O'Connell Center on Wednesday, February 9th, 2005. The show will

10. EVENT(TODAY): Last Day to Sign up for Mt. Sterling Backpack: Feb
4th
Today is the last day to sign up for "Backpack Mt. Sterling" which is
next weekend, Feb 11-13! Spend your weekend with TRiP as you explore the
Smoky Mountains, climb the highest peak in the southeast, and watch the

11. EVENT (TODAY): Opening at Grinter Gallery--Bahamian Art Exhibit
Events:
"Reflections on the Shallow Sea: Visual Culture from Andros Island".
Opening on Friday, Feb. 4th at Grinter Gallery, 5-7pm. There is wood
Sculpture by Henry Wallace, palm basket works by William, "Scrap Iron"
by Colebrooke & Omelia Marshall, and hand-batik cloth from the Androsia
Factory. At 6pm, enjoy the performance of IFALOLA! African Dance and
Drum Troupe. Reception will follow in the University Gallery. On
Saturday at 12 pm in FAC B1, there will be a public art demonstration/
workshop conducted by Henry Wallace and William Colebrooke. Finally, on
Monday the 7th in FAC B1, at 6:15pm there will be a slide-show. For more

12. EVENT: Engineering Honors Society Info. Session:
Tau Beta Pi is the only engineering honor society at UF representing the
entire engineering profession. We provide scholarship, networking, and
professional development opportunities unlike any other organization for
engineers. Undergraduate students must be in the top 1/8th of the
junior class or top 1/5th of the senior class to be scholastically
eligible for membership. If you feel you meet these requirements,
please join us at our Information Session this Monday, February 7th at 7

13. EVENT: Women's Leadership Conference
2005 Women's Leadership Conference - Feb. 13. 2005. Improve personal
savvy, interview skills, learn about self defense, international
leadership and much more! A great way to network and learn about
yourself! Registration is $20, includes breakfast, lunch and giveaway.

14. EVENT: Engineer's Week Social:
This year, the Society of Women Engineer hosts the EWeek social on Feb
18th to kick off Engineer's Week! With the theme of "Pink and Black,"
everyone is invited to attend. There will be a "Mr. and Ms. Engineering
Pageant" comprised of the fellow students at UF, fun for those who
participate or for those who watch. We still need a few more

15. EVENT: CASA Chinese New Year
Come celebrate Chinese New Year with the Chinese American Student
Association! We'll be ringing in the Year of the Rooster by putting on a
show on Saturday, February 5 at 7 PM in the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom,
featuring performances such as kung fu, lion dances, traditional Chinese
dances and much more! Cultural food will also be served. Free to the
public!
