An update on the "Audubon's Shearwater" that was brought in to the Marine Science Center. The bird died last night. Our chief bird rehab specialist, Chris Wise, called me down to look at the specimen a few minutes ago. She had been out of town and had just seen it herself and thought it looked odd. I just now examined the specimen and was surprised to see the pure white undertail coverts and other points that showed it to be a Manx Shearwater, not an Audubon's Shearwater.
Given the ten or so specimens that are listed to exist in Florida as of the publication of Stevenson and Anderson's Birdlife of Florida, we will make sure to send the specimen to FMNH.
