I've heard from many of you and the issue of the call's timing is problematic for some, but the majority support a call at 10:00-11:00. I'll send the telephone number around tomorrow morning (sorry, left it on my desk at work).
As of this time, the agenda includes the following.
1) Final disposition of Priscilla's questions ...
- whether or not libraries could use a METS client, or METS-maker application, for contributing to PALMM or the FDA, or other projects
- where DDAC members see an OAI-based portal would be useful.
2) Initial discussion of a timeline to address the statewide ETD initiative that we discussed during the joint meeting. For your convenience, here is the language regarding this issue as reported to the directors:
"In support of CSUL strategic plan goals 1, 3, and 6, the DDAC will conceptualize, plan, and implement a statewide collection of ETDs with emphasis on demonstrating the value of institutional research and generating potential external funding. This initiative has the potential to grow into and international dimension by incorporating ETDs from Latin America and the Caribbean and serve as a "kernel" for discipline- or subject-based information portals and to advance the cause of a statewide institutional repository."
Although many other issues may exist, we should probably limit ourselves to these two matters as we are limited to one hour tomorrow. Prior to future calls/meetings, I will circulate a request for agenda topics to open the process to all issues; the holidays intervened and made this more restrictive approach necessary.
