1. ADVISING ANNOUNCEMENT: Walk-in Advising at Hume This Week
(TODAY):
Advisors will have walk-in hours in the offices next to the Hume
classrooms this week during the following times:
Wednesday from 2:00-3:00pm and 4:00-5:00pm (Dr. Drummond).
Thursday from 10:00am-12:00pm and 1:30-4:30pm (Melissa Johnson).
Friday from 2:00-3:00pm and 4:00-5:00pm (Dr. Drummond).
Note that an honors advisor will be available for most of the day at
Hume this Thursday!
During the registration period, demand for walk-in advising at Hume can
be heavy. During this time, walk-in advising is most useful for quick
(5-10 min) questions about registration. Walk-in advising generally is
not recommended during this registration period if you need a lengthy
review of requirements or want to discuss long-term planning or
undergraduate opportunities. Please call the Honors Office at 392-1519
if you would like to make an appointment with an advisor to discuss
those items.
2. OPPORTUNITY: Writing Coaching Available on Thursday:
Writing coaching is now available to all honors students. Coach Sarah
Bartlett is available to assist you with your personal statement for
grad school, scholarship applications, research papers and more. Bring
your draft to the lobby across from Starbucks in Library West on

4. EVENT: Why is Networking Powerful?:
Come and hear an expert on Thursday, March 29 at 5:00pm in one of the
Hume classrooms (will last an hour). In this informal session UF honors
alum Steven Cohen will talk about and demonstrate why everyone needs to
use networking as a powerful tool for one's life. Steven is currently

UF he had a very successful career, having been chosen among other
things for the USA-Today First Academic Team in his senior year. He is

The second "S.O.S.: Supporting Our Soldiers" will be hosted by the
Student Honors Organization and aims to unite UF students and members of

S.O.S. will take place on Wednesday, March 28 from 10:00am-1:30pm on the
Reitz Union Colonnade.
It will only take a minute to stop by and write a letter to a soldier,
drop off an item for a care package, make a small donation/purchase,
chat with someone about your thoughts and show your support.
At the event you will have the opportunity to buy yellow ribbon car
magnets and t-shirts, write and send letters to stationed troops, and
help us show that while our politics and opinions differ, our support
for our soldiers does not. We will also be accepting any donations that
people would like to give to the cause.
Requested Items for Care packages: nonperishable wrapped food (cereal
bars, beef jerky, tuna pouches, chips); gently used movies, video games,
cds, electronics; phone cards, stationary; playing cards, batteries;
hygiene items (aspirin, deodorant, soap, sunscreen); magazines, books;
children's toys/stuffed animals
All funds raised will go towards shipping expenses of the care packages
and towards creating and maintaining a memorial section on the 34th
