Steve,

What reasons were you given for the resistance from management? Are they
concerned with the funding, ease of use, concern that it will affect the
productivity of the company?

Subject: [RM] Doc Mgt/Sharepoint Data tagging

I've been asked to benchmark the list for information on what's being done
in regard to tagging of documents in Document Mgt systems today.

Some background :
My company is currently working on a project to begin capturing electronic
records in an ERM and are being told that DM is off-limits- at least for
now. It will take a major shift in thinking for us to start including
capture closer to creation than declaring it a record. I'd like to at
least push for some basic mandatory metadata capture and some consistent
classification of documents entered into the current DM/collaboration
software (Sharepoint/Teamspace). Even though we're collecting
metadata/classifying in a random and inconsistent manner now I'm being
told this request will not fly with management and could jeopardize the
entire project moving forward. I related how it will increase the
transparency/ease of record declaration at a later date and increase usage
of the system by employees and while team members agree it is needed it
still won't fly.

I'd like to be able to show that there are other companies currently
requiring at least some consistent and mandatory classification/metadata
collection being done.

There was a thread in the ARMA forum that has died so I turn to the
expertise of the list.

Thanks in advance
