PWC has conducted these studies with ASIS since at least 1990. my point is
that the 1999 study is the one in which the $45 billion number is found.

I suspect that this is the latest study . Search through it to see what
numbers float to the top
here is a link to a online story about the 2002 report and that report
indicates a $59 billion loss
"Based on the survey responses, the study concluded that U.S. companies
suffered up to $59 billion in intellectual property and proprietary
information losses between July 2000 and June 2001. Most of those losses
resulted from legal fees and lost revenue associated with the theft of this
privileged information. Areas affected included research and development,
customer information and financial data."
