It is my understanding that this approach (big bucket) is used for 
managing e-mails only and not all records.  As many organizations struggle 
with e-mail management, the big bucket approach is something that makes it 
easier for users to store their information into a EDMS. 

Personally, I don't see it being used to manage all records.
