ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
2. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: UF College of Dentistry-Summer Learning Program:
The UF College of Dentistry sponsors a two-week, well-organized program for minority students in their freshmen or sophomore year of school who have a serious interest in dentistry called the "Summer Learning Program". The students in this program meet our students, work in the simulation laboratory and participate in seminars conducted by our professors. We also focus on the admissions process: the students complete a first draft of their personal statement while they are here and practice interviewing skills. They also receive specialized Dental Admissions Test (DAT) prep and take a practice DAT.
We offer free housing and a small stipend to the participants as well as lunch tickets. Also, this program is a wonderful opportunity for networking within the college. This year, our program runs from July 7-16. The deadline for applications is March 1. Please see more about our program through this link: http://www.dental.ufl.edu/Offices/Student_Multicultural_Affairs/outreach_programs_Summer_Learning_Program.php
Among the qualifications for acceptance into the program is a solid academic background in the sciences and particularly in Chemistry and Biology. One of our goals is to reach out to the diverse minority student population on Florida's campuses who have strengths in these areas.
3. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Harn Museum of Art - Gallery Talk:
The Harn Museum of Art on campus presents a gallery talk by Dan Perjovschi on Sunday, January 31 at 3:00pm
Artist-in-residence Perjovschi will explain his unique mural, commissioned and created for Project Europa: Imagining the (Im)Possible. The artist's work satirizes the politics and culture in Europe while drawing parallels to the United States and specifically to Gainesville and Florida. This gallery talk is a great opportunity to gain insight into the artist's work and artistic process as he explores the work-in-progress unfolding on the walls.
4. INTERNSHIP: Summer 2010 Everglades Restoration Internship:
