wondering what others would considered the top 5 must see places/attractions
in San Francisco excluding Alcatraz and the Zoo? Larry has a good list
started. I work in a vault so I have no interest in touring places of
confinement with thick walls and no natural light. As for the Zoo, I think
we all have worked with people we feel belong in a zoo so I will pass on
that as well.

Okay, here we go with the 'it depends' answer =)

If you're talking about in SF proper, and you just want to 'see' things...
While I can understand discounting the Zoo and Alcatraz, there are likely
some people who would be interested in seeing those. An option for Alcatraz
would be to consider a Bay Cruise, which may include a stop at Alcatraz
and/or Angel Island as well as vistas of the SF Skyline, both Bridges, the
Wharf, etc.

As for a short list for a limited time in The City, it would include North
Beach, Chinatown, Golden Gate Park (the Japanese Tea Garden, Steinhart
Aquarium, thew DeYoung Museum, the Exploratorium, the Strybing Arboretum,
the Conservatory of Flowers, the Academy of Science are ALL there!),
Fisherman's Wharf, and the other well known monuments, like Coit Tower, the
Transamerica Pyramid, the Painted Ladies off Alamo Square, Lombard Street,
the Golden Gate Bridge...
