Subject: John Chestnut Park • 102910 [birdPIX]

Hi all:
•
On Friday morning I was out at John Chestnut Park. I heard and observed the
Barred Owl pair on the Peggy Park Trail & boardwalk. On the boardwalk & trail
I also found a Great Blue Heron, Carolina Wren and a Blue-headed Vireo.
•
I observed a flycatcher that I believe is a juvenile plumaged Eastern Phoebe.
At first I tried to turn it into a Wood-Pewee but the wings are not long
enough. Juveniles of all three phoebe species have somewhat pronounced –
thought not real conspicuous -wingbars as this bird does. What’s so nice about
being able to capture images of birds in the field is being able compare the
images on the computer screen with the illustrations in the reference books.

I very briefly observed a Blue-headed Vireo but was not able to get a pix of it.
•
Happy birding!
