The problem which Jose has experienced is actually common. While the system is supposed to "activate automatically with the KMS servers," the truth is some times the automatic takes two or three days. I have had this problem with Windows 7, Office 2010, and Server 2008. Just to make it more frustrating, the issue is not consistent. I have installed Office on 3 systems in the same day and had 2 of them correctly authenticate immediately, but the third system took 3 days. I called the UF help desk about the problem. They told me to contact our department's IT. Later when I was getting ready to place that call the system had finally authenticated.

Regards,

Rich

Jose:

You *NEVER* enter a KMS key on your server installs. The whole idea with Server 2008 is that *NO* key is needed. Just do the install and the system will activate automatically with campus KMS servers, which have been in place for several years. This is the same for Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Office 2010. You never need to enter a key.

If you need specifics, please contact me off-list.

Subject: Server 2008 Stnd SP 2

I have downloaded a Server 2008 Standard SP2 ISO along with the KMS Key from our MSDN to load It on a new server. So I've configured the drives and options on the new server and then started the server install it then prompts for the KMS key which I've entered the one that was on the site. When I enter the KMS key it says windows has encountered and error and cannot continue. So I was just wondering if someone else has run into any problems with this this version of server 2008 because we have installed 2008 R2 with no problem.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks In Advance

Jose
