From: UF Innovation through Institutional Integration (I-Cubed)

RE: April 15: Deadline to Apply for UF I-Cubed Funding

The Innovation through Institutional Integration (I-Cubed) program at the University of Florida is a five-year project funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to foster integration of all NSF-funded student-based research and training programs in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), including SBE (Social, Behavioral and Economics), disciplines at the University of Florida. The goal of the Program is to further the professional preparation of students to have a true competitive edge through a focus on professionally-oriented training programs and activities. One objective of the program is to facilitate interdisciplinary research collaboration between graduate students from different disciplines. This award is intended to:

-- Encourage graduate students in the STEM, including SBE, disciplines to propose, develop and participate in interdisciplinary research projects.

-- Provide graduate students with experience working in an interdisciplinary team environment.

-- Encourage graduate students to involve undergraduate students in research activities.

The competition is open to graduate students from across the university; each team must include at least one member from the STEM, including SBE, disciplines.

Funding Details:

This year, funding will be provided to support interdisciplinary projects which address:

-- State of Florida Topics - encompassing research focused on Florida-based topics, e.g. socioeconomic, environmental, energy, and other areas of research which are of significant importance to the State of Florida. This may also include community oriented research projects.

-- International Topics - encompassing research focused on global topics. This may include projects conducted in foreign countries.

Five to six awards of up to $2,500 each will be awarded to teams of graduate students to conduct projects for duration not to exceed one academic year.  The award level will be determined by costs incurred for the implementation of the proposed project.

Priority will be given to projects that:

-- Relate to on-going research or are closely connected to a student's thesis/dissertation.

-- Include undergraduate team member(s) and have an emphasis on mentoring.

Application Deadline: Friday, 15 April 2011 by 11:59 p.m.
