Just for the sake of information ----- we have had 17 seperate snake events on the project this season.
1) Snake in the egg chamber when exhuming a fresh nest of C.Mydas, we have experienced that before.
2) Snake in hatching nest eating/crushing hatchlings, this snake crushed 14 hatchlings in the chamber before our technician could get the snake out. Once again C. Mydas, on Punta Pargos.

We had some evidence (though not fully confirmed) of black Naja snakes eating leatherback eggs and/or hatchlings in Gabon, Africa. One of the research assistants saw this black snake coming out of a nest that was probably already predated by crabs, as Mike said. This happened a couple of times. We also had similar snakes wandering around the hatchery at the time of nest hatching. The identification of the snake is not 100% sure. According to locals, it was a Naja sp. snake.

Hi all,
I am keen to hear about any observations of egg-eating snakes predating sea turtle eggs. I am aware of Akira Mori's work on Dinodon eating sea turtle eggs in Japan, and Wen-San Huang's work on Oligodon eating sea turtle eggs on Orchid Island, Taiwan. Any other observations would be very useful, especially if snake predation of eggs seems to be a common occurrence in your area.
