All - We are very excited to announce the general availability for unlimited licensed/supported usage at the University of Florida of RedHat Enterprise Linux Advanced Platform, RedHat Workstation/Desktop variants and a central RedHat Satellite service to aid in management and provisioning of your implementations.

As part of this enterprise agreement between RedHat and the University of Florida:

o All UF departments and colleges will have the ability to utilize unlimited RedHat Enterprise Linux and RedHat Desktop/Workstation variants

o All current (and new) RedHat RHEL, Workstation/Desktop subscriptions *and* support will be uplifted to Premium versions of both - this means 24x7 RedHat support for your RedHat environments when needed

o All UF departments utilizing these RedHat technologies will be able to simplify their security, patch and system management utilizing our UF-implemented RedHat Satellite service

o As stated, there are no additional costs for individuals, colleges or departments wishing to take advantage of these technologies - we were able to leverage our current focused buying power with RedHat to enable this opportunity UF-wide

Other potential benefits:

o Any college/department utilizing unsupported RedHat, Centos, Ubuntu or other unsupported linux flavors now have the opportunity to replace those implementations with a fully supported premium license of RedHat if desired

o Any departments utilizing proprietary operating systems and proprietary hardware to accommodate those operating systems will have an opportunity to migrate to a widely vendor supported linux platform at potentially a much lower OS/HW cost than their current investments

In order to register your organization to take advantage of these technologies, please have your technical administrator send an email to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> with the following information:

1. What is the name of your organization (for RedHat purposes)? For example, we have organizations such as CNS-ERP, CNS-OSG, ICBR, FCLA, etc

2. What is the name, email, address and phone number of the technical manager/director for your department? This will be used for license verification purposes.

3. What is the name, email, address and phone # of the contact for this organization for Satellite purposes? This will be information which is added to the primary organization user.
Once this information is processed, you will receive log-in and organization set up instructions for the Satellite service.

Please also subscribe to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> for notices of updates and information sharing regarding this service.

Many thanks to the multiple organizations involved in the pilot and roll-out phases of the Satellite system implementation. Your patience and offered suggestions as we worked through this process were very much appreciated!
