1. JOB OPPORTUNITY: Student Assistant Needed:
The Honors Office is hiring a student assistant who can start immediately. You must be available from 12:50-5:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, no exception. Please do not apply if you cannot work during those times, otherwise your application will not be reviewed. Preference will be given to students who potentially could work with Honors long-term (i.e. freshmen and sophomores).
We're looking for responsible, professional honors students who work well with others and enjoy plenty of interaction with students and their parents. Customer service experience is a plus! Applicants must be comfortable with computers as well, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite. Historically the Honors Program's most successful student assistants have demonstrated strong leadership skills and have exhibited careful attention to detail in every aspect of the job. While working in the office, student assistants will answer phones, assist with Preview, and handle administrative tasks as needed.
Please e-mail a resume and a cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position, why you would be a good fit for the Honors Office, and your spring availability by 12:00pm on Friday, February 17 to Fran Green at [log in to unmask]
2. ANNOUNCEMENT: UF Honors Magazine Call for Submissions (NEW POSTING):
Do you write poetry, short stories, draw, or take photos? Do you know an honors student who does? If you would like to contribute your work to the new UF Honors magazine, please submit to [log in to unmask] by February 25.
The UF Honors Magazine is a free magazine which will be distributed to honors students at the end of the semester. The magazine wants to represent all majors, interests and aspects of being in honors, but we are in need of honors students' literary and art pieces. If you have questions, please e-mail [log in to unmask]
3. ANNOUNCEMENT: Walk-in Advising and Honors Daily Hiatus:
Walk-in advising hours for Thursday, February 16 have been canceled. Walk-in advising will still take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, or you may also call the Honors Office to make an appointment.

8. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: MSF Combined Degree Program (NEW POSTING):
The Master of Science in Finance (MSF) Combined Degree Program will hold an information session for honors students next Tuesday, February 21 at 8:30am in 120 Hough Hall.
The MSF Program is small and admissions are highly competitive. It is job placement oriented.
Students place in investment banking, asset management, or corporate finance in NY, Charlotte, Atlanta, Tampa and other cities. See this year's graduating class placements (Class of 2012) on http://warrington.ufl.edu/fire/programs/msf/placement/resumes.asp.
Last year, full time base starting salaries averaged 60-70K. This does not include signing or annual bank bonuses. 100% of the program's analyst candidates accepted full time placement offers before graduation.
The program allows undergraduates to begin graduate level finance courses at the start of their third year on campus. The classes will count for both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. Students in the program complete their graduate degree within four years of starting at UF. Bright Futures helps fund the MSF for eligible students.
Students attending next week's information session should be in their first or second year on campus. Math, Economics, Accounting, Engineering and Finance students are encouraged to attend.
9. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: UF Engineering Fair (NEW POSTING):

E-Fair emphasizes the importance of math, science and engineering in the real world and shows how these typically "difficult and boring" subjects are not only necessary in life but also fun and exciting.
E-Fair 2012 will take place on Tuesday, February 21 from 9:00am-4:00pm and Thursday, February 23 from 9:00am-2:00pm. There will also be a Poster Symposium on Tuesday, February 21 from 9:00am-2:00pm. More information can be found at the event page: http://www.facebook.com/events/255580071185650/
