HONORS OFFICE ANNOUNCEMENTS

1.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Completing the Honors Program:
We have heard from many students who are confused about the timeline to complete the Honors Program. There is no deadline to take your four honors courses, i.e. you do *not* have to take four courses within your first four semesters at UF. You have priority to register for honors courses during that time, but you do not have to take all of them during that time. You may continue to work toward the Honors Certificate of Completion as long as you are an undergraduate. Please note that IDH 3931: Science for Life does not count as one of the four honors courses.

Additionally, honors internship and research credit may be used to count toward your four honors courses. For more information on how to register for honors internship or research credit, visit http://www.honors.ufl.edu/Forms.aspx

When you have completed your four honors courses and the outside activity requirement (research, internship, study abroad, leadership, or service), you may submit the Certificate of Completion application to 343 Infirmary: http://bit.ly/H0D0Le

If you have any questions about the certificate application, please contact the Honors Office. You should not, however, make an appointment with or e-mail an advisor to have them complete the application for you (e.g. look up all of your honors courses).

If your application is approved, the completion of the Honors Program requirements will be noted on your transcript.

Note that completing the Honors Program is separate from graduating with honors which is handled by your major department. For more information on graduating with honors, please visit https://catalog.ufl.edu/ugrad/current/Pages/graduating-with-honors.aspx

2.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Honors Courses:
We know there are a lot of exciting honors courses on the schedule for the fall semester, and many have filled at this time. If an honors course is not showing up on ISIS, then it has most likely filled to capacity.

Please do not contact an honors advisor, the Honors Office, or the honors instructor asking to be added over the cap or to a waiting list. We do not keep waiting lists for any of our courses.

We are currently reserving seats in almost all honors courses for incoming honors students at Preview. If seats become available after Preview, we will release them to the general honors population in mid-August. We will announce when we release courses in August on the Honors Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/UFHonors

3.	ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Summer / Fall Course Registration:
Summer / Fall registration has begun. Make sure you check ISIS for holds and other information.

All engineering majors have an advising hold - you must meet with an advisor in engineering (*not honors*) to get your engineering advising hold removed. To view the list of engineering advisors by department, visit http://www.eng.ufl.edu/students/advising/who-is-my-advisor

Also check for other holds, including financial holds and emergency contact holds. Staying on top of holds will make the registration process much smoother.

The schedule of courses is available at http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/soc/ . Fall honors course descriptions are available at http://www.honors.ufl.edu/courses/CoursesFall2012.aspx (there are no honors courses during the summer).

Note that if you register for a summer A/B/C course that is a prerequisite for a course you wish to take in the fall, you must wait until the following business day to add the fall course.

Please plan ahead so you'll be ready when registration begins!

4.	EVENT: An Evening with Sarah Vowell (TODAY):
The UF Honors Program will host author and public radio commentator Sarah Vowell for a public reading on Monday, April 2, at 7:30pm at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

Sarah Vowell is the New York Times' bestselling author of five nonfiction books on American history and culture. By examining the connections between the American past and present, she offers personal, often humorous accounts of everything from presidents and their assassins to colonial religious fanatics, as well as thoughts on American Indians, utopian dreamers, pop music and the odd cranky cartographer.

Vowell was a contributing editor for Public Radio International's This American Life from 1996-2008, where she produced numerous commentaries and documentaries and toured the country in many of the program's live shows. She was one of the original contributors to McSweeney's, also participating in many of the quarterly's readings and shows. She has been a columnist for Salon.com, Time and San Francisco Weekly and continues to write occasional essays for the opinion page of the New York Times.

Vowell has made numerous appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. She is the voice of teen superhero Violet Parr in Brad Bird's Academy Award-winning The Incredibles, a Pixar Animation Studios film.

The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30pm.
