3. CARLOS FUENTES (1928-2012)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The recent passing of one of Latin America's most influential writers has drawn renewed attention to his brilliant literary career. A quantitative summary of citations is not a proper tribute to a great humanist, but it does reflect something of the intellectual activity inspired by that figure. An initial survey:
--- The Hispanic American Periodical Index ( http://hapi.ucla.edu ) contains at least 517 citations for journal articles (1970-2011) where the subject equals "Carlos Fuentes"
--- The Handbook of Latin American Studies ( http://lcweb2.loc.gov/hlas/hlashome.html ) includes at least 153 annotated citations that refer to "Carlos Fuentes."
--- The CLASE citation database, prepared at UNAM, lists 70 articles on Fuentes that appeared in Latin American literary journals (1978-2009) ( http://firstsearch.oclc.org/dbname=ClasePeriodica;done=referer;FSIP ).
---The Proquest Theses and Dissertations Full Text database ( http://search.proquest.com/pqdtft?accountid=10920 ) contains 213 academic works (1964-2011) where "Carlos Fuentes" appears in the abstract or subject headings, 136 of which are available in their entirety online. We also hold at least five master's theses on Fuentes that were defended at UF between 1962 and 1996.
Our catalog, which includes separate bibliographic records for different editions of the same work, identifies Fuentes as an author in 135 records. Fuentes is present in our library, through his fiction, such as...
