Good Morning Douglas,
While I can't speak to the hardware issues (my better half set up our network) I'm running a two floor, 4 machine, 2 printers, and a scanner network using BellSouth. It's been in place since April. Here's the problems I've had so far:
1) helpdesk support is non-existent. While they are nice people they're reading from a script. If you have an issue that isn't on the script they can't help you. Also if you mention you are on a network, they will immediately tell you networks aren't supported and end the call.
2) Access is not always guaranteed. From time to time I will get a busy signal or 'host unavailable' when I try to dial in. There answer was during high volume times you may need to try two or three times.
3)Remote email access spotty at best. While there is a handy web interface (webmail.bellsouth.net) they do not guarantee that it will work. Upon calling tech support I was told that this is not a service you pay for and hence they are not obligated to make it work 24x7. I have 3 email accounts, usually one (but not the same one) works 50% of the time.
Having said all that, I received my modem free, the service costs me roughly $45 a month, and the connection is always fast.
HTH,
Rachel

Greetings:
At the risk of opening a huge can of worms - I come seeking advice.
I am going to be installing a home network. The house is now wired and
I need an ISP for an Internet connection.
Bellsouth, Telocity, RoadRunner, Cox Cable Modem - has anyone used any of
these?
What are you thoughts?
Who has the best ( deal / service ) ratio?
Done one? What switch did you choose to use?
I appreciate your thoughts.
Cheers,
Douglas
