Including, curiously, the media establishment itself - feeding off each
other and working themselves into a frenzy over issues to which the general
population is mostly indifferent. A shining example is the Clinton
"Lewinsky scandal" which led to a futile impeachment even while Bill's
survey ratings remained high and stable. Garry Trudeau in Doonesbury
encapsulated it very well (as always), referring to the Washington media
together with the Republican congress contingent as the "Beltway Bozos".
Janet Jackson's nipple probably also qualifies.
