Although we experienced a direct hit of the center of Frances when it made
landfall at St Marks here in the Panhandle, we were on the wimpy side of the
storm and had little nasty weather to speak of - only 3 inches of rain and
not much more than perhaps 45 mph gusts. It may sound odd, but as the eye
of this storm passed over us, I was out on our deck, BBQing chicken (no
power for a day so cooking was outside!).
One thing I've noticed is that all of our Ruby-throated Hummingbirds appear
to have left. There were none here during the storm (Monday), none
yesterday and none noted yet today. This is about a month early for them to
leave - they usually leave in October, often with the same cold front that
brings our winter resident Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers.
Anybody else missing hummers?
