Hey Everyone,
I found a Western Kingbird today in eastern Duval County. It was seen
several times flying around the old M&M Dairy property. This area is slated
to become an industrial park/housing development one day, but for now
resembles a mini-Zellwood. There were lots of birds.
Back in one of the old cattle ponds were 5 American Avocets. There were
numerous hawks including Red-shouldered, Red-tailed, Cooper's,
Sharp-shinned, harrier, Bald Eagle, and *lots* of kestrels. There were good
numbers of other field and wetland species too including shrike, Sedge Wren,
gobs of Savannah Sparrows, palms, and Common Yellowthroats, and Blue-winged
Teal, White Ibis, Savannah Sparrow, and snipe.
This is private property, but you can get good looks at the fields by
walking along a sidewalk that runs along the new industrial park road
(public) immediately to the south. This area is on New Berlin road about 3/4
mile north of the power plant entrance.
