Content-Type: text/html As you know, FCLA is purchasing Ex Libris' DigiTool product. We plan to use this for the PALMM collections hosted by FCLA, replacing our current DLXS application. We do not have a timeline yet, but I'm hoping we can do this within the calendar year. SUS libraries who want to use DigiTool for their digital collections have three options: 1) use the FCLA instance of DigiTool under the FCLA administrative unit (ADM), 2) use the FCLA instance of DigiTool under your library's own ADM(s), 3) install your own instance of DigiTool. If you contribute to Florida Heritage or other PALMM collection hosted by FCLA, we will set you up as a DigiTool user under option (1) so you can contribute content directly. Independent of this, if you want you can use DigiTool for your own collections under any option (1-3). The main difference between options (1) and (2) is that within an administrative unit (ADM), all resources are shared. Any templates, ingest workflows, deposit workflows, cataloging/metadata records etc. created within an ADM are available to any authorized staff user within the ADM. Conversely, these resources are not shared or even visible between different ADMs. The rest of this note explains the differences between these options in a little more detail. 1) use the FCLA instance of DigiTool under the FCLA ADM -- Cost to library = nothing. -- FCLA runs the hardware and software, provides disk storage and tape backup. -- FCLA pays for software installation and maintenance. -- Your library can build and maintain its own collections, configure its collections to the extent allowed by DigiTool, establish its own Ingest workflows, and set up own templates in the Meditor (metadata editor). -- Your library staff can see and share any Ingest workflows and Meditor templates in the FCLA ADM, including those created by you, by FCLA, and by any other library using the FCLA ADM. -- Your library staff can edit cataloging/metadata records for objects in the FCLA ADM; any other library using the FCLA ADM can edit records created by your library; your staff can not see or edit records created in any other ADM. -- If you want, your library can have a URL for a DigiTool user interface with the library's own colors and logo. -- Every collection created in the FCLA instance of Digitool will (must) be listed and be accessible in the user interface. 2) use the FCLA instance of DigiTool under the Library's own ADM(s) -- Cost to library = $6000 per ADM, plus $1800 per staff user license (1 minimum). -- FCLA runs the hardware and software, provides disk storage and tape backup. -- FCLA pays for software installation; library pays maintenance on its own ADM and staff user license(s). -- Your library staff can build and maintain its own collections, configure its collections to the extent allowed by DigiTool, establish its own Ingest workflows, and set up own templates in the Meditor (metadata editor). -- Your library staff can use only the Ingest workflows and Meditor templates created by Library in its own ADM; no library in any other ADM can see your workflows and templates. -- Your library staff can see and edit cataloging/metadata records created in your library's ADM only; no other library staff can see or edit your records. -- If you want, your library can have a URL for a DigiTool user interface with the library's own colors and logo. -- Every collection created in the FCLA instance of Digitool will (must) be listed and be accessible in the user interface. 2) install your own instance of DigiTool -- Cost to library = depends on size and configuration, see attached price list. Note that FCLA negotiated a 30% discount for our own installation and it may be possible for you to do the same. -- Your library runs the hardware and software, provides disk storage and backup. -- Your library pays for software installation and maintenance. -- Your library staff can build and maintain its own collections, configure its collections to the extent allowed by DigiTool, establish its own Ingest workflows, and set up own templates in the Meditor (metadata editor). -- No other library can see your workflows and templates. -- No other library staff can see or edit your cataloging/metadata records. -- Your library has complete control over the user interface to your collections, to the extent allowed by DigiTool. -- Only your own collections will be listed and be accessible in the user interface.
