If you beleive you should be under the authority of the Legal Department, it
might make sence to research the eDiscovery side of the coin, then to
approach the "legal begals" with the info.

Just take a look at some of the awards that judges are handing out these
days.  If that does not convince them that it makes sence to keep track of
your information with proper retention schedules, etc., then I don't know
what will.
