EVENT: International Mother Language Day Show (NEW POSTING): HONORS OFFICE ANNOUNCEMENTS 1. JOB OPPORTUNITY: Student Assistant Needed (NEW POSTING): The Honors Office is hiring a student assistant who can start immediately. You must be available from 12:50-5:00pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, no exception. Please do not apply if you cannot work during those times, otherwise your application will not be reviewed. Preference will be given to students who potentially could work with Honors long-term (i.e. freshmen and sophomores). We're looking for responsible, professional honors students who work well with others and enjoy plenty of interaction with students and their parents. Customer service experience is a plus! Applicants must be comfortable with computers as well, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite. Historically the Honors Program's most successful student assistants have demonstrated strong leadership skills and have exhibited careful attention to detail in every aspect of the job. While working in the office, student assistants will answer phones, assist with Preview, and handle administrative tasks as needed. ANNOUNCEMENT: Walk-in Advising and Honors Daily Hiatus: Walk-in advising hours for Thursday, February 16 have been canceled. Walk-in advising will still take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, or you may also call the Honors Office to make an appointment. Also, the Honors Daily will be on hiatus from Thursday, February 16 through Tuesday, February 21. If you would like to advertise events taking place during that break, please submit them ASAP. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: CRC FUSION Series (NEW POSTING): This week the Career Resource Center will be hosting two sessions of the new FUSION series, where students can collaborate in an intimate setting to enhance their professional skills and development. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: What to do while waiting on decisions' Workshop (NEW POSTING): Are you a pre-law student in your senior year awaiting decisions from the law schools to which you have applied? This time of year can be challenging as you play the waiting game. This workshop will discuss tips and resources to assist you in making the best choices as you wait to hear back from law schools. Topics will include ways to continue to research the law schools you are waiting to hear from, debunking myths about waitlists, what to do if you get accepted to one school but you are still waiting to hear from others and getting your financials in order for law school. The workshop will be held on Monday, February 20 from 1:55-2:45pm in Farrior Room 202. 9. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Reception and Event with Amira Haas (TODAY): Please join us in the Bob Graham Center for a student reception with prominent Israeli journalist and author Amira Hass on Tuesday, February 14 from 3:30-4:30pm in 210 Pugh Hall. This will be a great opportunity for you to talk with Ms. Hass in a small group setting. Cookies and soda will be served. There will limited space available for the reception. ACADEMIC ANNOUNCEMENT: Marston Science Library Workshops: Register now for Spring 2012 workshops at the Marston Science Library. (http://apps.uflib.ufl.edu/Registration/) RefWorks 2.0 Complete: RefWorks is a web-based citation management tool that makes creating and formatting bibliographies easy. In this workshop our librarians introduce you to basics of the program and demonstrate advanced features like Write-n-Cite. Thursday, February 23 from 2:00-3:30pm. Wednesday, March 14 from 1:00-2:30pm. EndNote Web: EndNote Web is a tool that allows you to gather citations from multiple databases, create bibliographies, and share references. In this workshop our librarians will go through the 3 step process of collecting references, organizing that information, and formatting a bibliography. Wednesday, February 22 from 3:00-4:00pm. Thursday, March 15 from 4:00-5:00pm. 11. INTERNSHIP: International Internship Seminar (NEW POSTING): Learn how you can complete an internship abroad on Wednesday, February 15 at 3:00pm in Bryan Hall 232. VOLUNTEER: Science Bowl Volunteers Needed (NEW POSTING): The Science Bowl is an academic team style competition the Society of Physics Students is hosting on February 25. We need volunteers to run all aspects of the competition including: moderating, time/score keeping, science judges, and rules judges. To familiarize you volunteers must attend at least one training session: Thursday, February 16, 6:30pm. Saturday, February 18, 11:00am. Tuesday, February 21, 6:30pm. Volunteers will also receive a free t-shirt and lunch the day of the competition. Volunteer check-in on the competition day, February 25, is 7:45am, and the science bowl will run through the rest of the day. STUDENT ORGANIZATION ANNOUNCEMENT: The Dynamo (NEW POSTING): The Dynamo will have a meeting Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30pm in Anderson Hall 34. The Dynamo is a diverse, nationally recognized organization of students gathered to discuss current issues. Today's members are constantly developing this organization into a force increasingly-equipped to impact the most significant problems facing UF campus and beyond. The Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is a national student organization that focuses on promoting and enhancing health care. HOSA at UF has many opportunities for those who are pre-health, including volunteering and internship opportunities available exclusively for HOSA members. STUDENT ORGANIZATION ANNOUNCEMENT: Habitat for Humanity: Habitat for Humanity is meeting this Tuesday, February 14 at 8:20pm in Rinker 110. All are welcome to join. Come out to learn about our Hustle for Humanity 5K, upcoming builds, volunteer opportunities, socials, and more. Our annual Hustle for Humanity 5K Race is taking place on February 25 starting at the UF Commuter Lot. Registration starts at 7:00am, and the race begins at 8:00am. The online preregistration fee is $17 which includes a t-shirt. On the day of the race, registration is $15 to run, and $20 to run and get a shirt. EVENT: International Mother Language Day Show (NEW POSTING): UF's Bangladeshi Students Association (BSA) and Asian Pacific Islander American Affairs (APIA) are hosting the first International Mother Language Day show on Saturday, February 18 at 7:00pm in the Reitz Amphitheater.
