Content-Type: text/html Last night I had intended to write the post-mortem for the Fox Sparrow that has been faithfully visiting a feeder I had set up on the Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail for the past three winters. I had not seen it since 31 December despite repeated searches daily by me and others. I thought it had fallen prey to the Sharp-shinned Hawk, feral cat or bobcat that had been seen near the feeder recently. Good thing I decided to do the dishes, and enter E-bird lists from old field notes instead of writing that sad post. This morning, the Fox Sparrow was right where it should have been all along, happily munching away on the seed right behind the feeder, acting as if nothing was wrong or out of the ordinary. I guess it may prove less predictable then before. The feeder is 400 yards south of SE 22nd Avenue or 1000 yards north of the Boulware Spring Parking Lot (off SE 15th St.) on the Gainesville Hawthorne recreation trail. The feeder is on the east side of the trail, just south of a gate and private property sign with a Pileated Woodpecker.
