Math Dev Ed info (1 message)
Math Dev Ed info Hi. I am Patrick Wagener at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, California, in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. I am a math instructor and interested in Developmental Ed in math. I, we (the Dev Ed Committee looking to establish a Dev Ed Program here at LMC) have several questions or areas that we would like some feedback on: 1. Successful techniques/methods used with Dev Ed math students (those students at arithmetic through Elementary Algebra level of math)? * collaborative learning * self-paced * "self-paced" with a calendar or list of completion dates * "traditional" lecture/discussion * discovery learning with group (collaborative) activities * CIA -- stand alone vs with (as part of) a "structured" class * other? 2. Texts: recommendation(s) * supplemental materials 3. Some resources (articles, books, people (email addresses?), super successful programs, etc.) that you have found helpful for you. 4. Diagnostic (placement) tests? Especially if they have been "certified" (or whatever the term is) by California Dept. of Ed. * EST? 5. CIA programs with applications? (for arithmetic through Elem. Alg) I have never been part of a computer discussion group before. This will be interesting for me. My address is "[log in to unmask](Patrick Wagener). Thank you all ahead of time for your help.
