not necessarily-- really i am interested in any research that has tied to
civil wars or ethnic conflict.  the motivation is a joint project, still
amorphous, that i am exploring with a colleague of mine, so i just would
like to survey the landscape.  one could imagine simulation models that
examine polarization processes (as Axelrod's did), but also empirical work
on the social network antecedents and/or consequences of civil wars, the
interplay of the social construction of differences among groups and social
networks, etc etc.
