Subject: GitHub Update
It took 4-5 months to work through legal and contract nuances but we now have the GitHub Enterprise Cloud and Enterprise (on premise) contracts signed. Last week GitHub accepted those contracts and our license was applied to two existing UF orgs in the cloud. The risk assessment for non-open data in GitHub Enterprise Cloud is actively in progress.
So the good news is UF is now a GitHub Education partner school and as a result we get GitHub Enterprise Cloud and GitHub Enterprise (on premise) for free. In the past this would have cost greater than $30,000 annually and soon we will be able to save the $1,000’s currently being spent across UF.
The bad news is we need to figure out a bunch of logistics to onboard users such as how to get people in and out of various orgs at scale, how to shibbolize or not various orgs, support, governance, email lists, etc.
If you have cycles or expertise to help with any of the above let me know. We are happy to have help and/or advice. We are slightly busy at the moment with UF Next Generation stuff, normal work stuff, and some other project stuff but we will try to keep GitHub moving forward.
We have created a Microsoft Team called GitHub so there is a single source of truth for all communication. The join code is “q0yhnfd”.
In the team site there is a “Questions” doc under files. That is where we will put all questions and answers as we get them. Please add any questions you have to the Questions doc or place them in the general channel. Right now the answer to almost all questions is we don’t know yet but as answers become clear the FAQ will be updated and expanded.
We know a lot of people are eager to get started so thank you for your patience as we work through the details. That is all for now. Keep it real.
