Workshops for TAs Begin on Tuesday
The fall series of workshops for TA development sponsored by the
Graduate School and the AT Teaching Center begins on Tuesday, September
17, in TURLINGTON 2349 at 5:10pm and will run on consecutive Tuesdays
through
November 5th from 5 – 7 pm. This general strand of workshops will focus
on topics of interest to TAs currently in the classroom and graduate
students who hope to teach in the future. Dr. Richard Lutz, Marketing
Professor in the College of Business and former Graduate School associate
dean, will
deliver the first presentation: Lecture Planning. Other topics in the
“general strand” of workshops are “Leading Discussions,” “Writing across
the Content Areas,” “Testing and Grading,” the “Teaching Portfolio,” and
more.
The Technology Strand focuses on the use of computer technology to
enhance learning in the classroom. The sessions are conducted in a
computer lab so that each participant can learn to use specific software
as they learn about its classroom applications. Among the topics
included are “Digital Gradebook and Grade-A-Gator,” “Using PowerPoint in
the Classroom,” “Creating a Faculty Homepage,” and “WebCT.”
The workshops are free. To register and for more information on the
series of development workshops see www.teachingcenter.ufl.edu and click
on Resources for Teaching Assistants or phone 392-2010.
