Dear colleagues in the field of program and policy evaluation:

The Southeast Evaluation Association invites you to present your research at
the 15th Annual Conference, to be held January 22-24, 2003 in Tallahassee,
Florida. The theme of the conference is "Making Evaluation Useful," and the
keynote speaker is Michael Quinn Patton.

share your work with peers and colleagues.

Please review the additional information provided below this message, and
please forward this call for proposals to others who may be interested. The
conference committee is especially encouraging evaluators to present on a
variety of topics that span a broad array of program and policy areas.

The deadline for submitting proposals is December 2, 2002. For more
information about presenting at the conference, please contact Christine
Johnson at [log in to unmask] or (850) 222-7730. We look forward to

THREE DAYS WITH
DR. MICHAEL QUINN PATTON
Michael Quinn Patton, a former president of the American Evaluation
Association, is an independent organizational development and evaluation
consultant. He is the author of many books, including Utilization-Focused
Evaluation: The New Century Text (1997). The two previous editions of that
book have been used in over 300 universities. His other evaluation books are
Qualitative Research and Evaluation Methods (3rd edition, 2002); Creative
Evaluation (1987); Practical Evaluation (1982); and Culture and Evaluation
(1985).

Pre-Conference Workshop
Wednesday, January 22, 2003

Qualitative Evaluation Methods: 9:00 a.m. - noon
In the last decade, enormous developments have occurred in qualitative
methods with the emergence of new and competing perspectives. More options
exist for ways of undertaking qualitative evaluations. Qualitative data can
humanize evaluations by portraying the people and stories behind the
numbers. This workshop will review basics then concentrate on new directions
in qualitative evaluation.

Making Evaluation Useful: Utilization-Focused Evaluation: 1:30-4:30 p.m.
This workshop focuses on how to do evaluations that are useful, practical,
accurate and ethical. Participants will learn an evaluation process that
enhances use of evaluation from beginning to end. This approach encourages
situational responsiveness, adaptability and creativity, based on Patton's
widely-used evaluation text, Utilization-Focused Evaluation.
